Volkswagen Celebrates 50 Years of the Golf at the ADAC 24-Hour Race

The countdown for Germany’s largest motorsport event has begun. On June 1st, over 200,000 spectators will gather at the Nürburgring for the legendary ADAC 24-hour race. This year, Volkswagen will mark the 50th anniversary of the Golf with a special celebration, showcasing the new Golf GTI Clubsport and entering the one-off Golf GTI Clubsport 24h in the race.

World Premiere of the Golf GTI Clubsport
On May 31st, Volkswagen will unveil the new Golf GTI Clubsport to thousands of visitors at the ‘Ring Boulevard’. This new model, the most powerful Golf with front-wheel drive, features a redesigned front, revamped LED Plus headlights, and an illuminated Volkswagen logo. A large rear roof spoiler ensures maximum downforce, and new 19-inch Queenstown alloy wheels evoke the classic Detroit wheel design. Optional 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels are also available, reducing unsprung mass for optimized performance. The interior boasts a new multifunction leather sports steering wheel, a state-of-the-art infotainment system, and the voice assistant IDA with ChatGPT integration.

The Golf GTI Clubsport 24h in the Race
The Golf GTI Clubsport 24h, developed by Volkswagen Motorsport and refined by Max Kruse Racing, will participate in the 24-hour race. This one-off GTI, with a 348 PS 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, will be driven by motorsport stars Benny Leuchter and Johan Kristoffersson. The car will race in the AT3 class, using the high-tech bioethanol fuel E20, developed by Shell. This fuel reduces CO2 emissions by 35 to 40 percent compared to traditional bioethanol fuels. The race car features advanced aerodynamics and a special camouflage design.

Classic Golf GTIs in the ADAC 24h Classic Race
Three classic first-generation Golf GTIs will participate in the ADAC 24h Classic race. These include a 1981 Golf GTI 16S Oettinger with 208 PS, a 1978 Golf GTI Kamei with 183 PS, and a 1980 Golf GTI with 184 PS, all celebrating 45 years of KWL Motorsport and 50 years of the Golf.
