Audi is taking a significant step in its electric mobility journey with the introduction of the Audi Q6L e-tron, the first production model on the brand’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE). Unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show 2024, this electrically powered SUV is tailored specifically for the Chinese market.
The Audi Q6L e-tron will initially be presented as an exterior model at the spring motor show in Beijing. The series version is expected to make its public debut in the fourth quarter of 2024, with the first deliveries to customers scheduled for 2025. Like other PPE models designed for the Chinese market, the Audi Q6L e-tron will be locally produced in a new factory in Changchun.
One of the standout features of the Audi Q6L e-tron is its impressive driving and charging performance. Thanks to its longer wheelbase, which is 105 millimeters longer than the global model, it can accommodate a larger battery. This translates to a range of more than 700 kilometers, making it an attractive option for those seeking long-distance capability. The “L” in the name signifies the long wheelbase, a hallmark of outstanding long-distance capability.
Audi has a longstanding tradition of building “L” models with an extended wheelbase for the Chinese market. Models like the A6L, A4L, Q5L, A8L, and A8L Horch are some of the well-known large-volume versions. With the addition of the Q6L e-tron to the family, Audi is offering even more space, comfort, and everyday usability. The new interior design philosophy of the Q6L e-tron promises an exclusive and generous space for passengers.
Visually, the Audi Q6L e-tron showcases Audi’s distinctive SUV design, further evolved with the brand’s e-tron-specific design language. It stands apart from the global version right from the start, especially with its redesigned front end, marking its own distinct identity for the China-specific version. Exclusive colors, like the Lilac Grey showcased at the Beijing Auto Show, further accentuate its progressive and unique exterior design.
Under the hood, the Q6L e-tron is equipped with powerful, compact, and highly efficient electric motors. The newly developed lithium-ion battery consists of 12 modules and 192 prismatic cells, providing a total gross capacity of 107 kWh. This results in a range of more than 700 kilometers according to the CLTC standard. Additionally, the 800-volt technology and a maximum DC charging capacity of 270 kW ensure short charging stops. Up to 260 kilometers of range can be recharged in just ten minutes at an appropriate charging station, with the State of Charge (SoC) increasing from 10 to 80 percent within 25 minutes.
The Audi Q6L e-tron will be offered in two versions: a rear-wheel drive version with a system power output of 255 kW and a quattro all-wheel drive with 345 kW. While the rear-wheel drive version prioritizes efficiency and range, the quattro version offers excellent traction and driving dynamics.
In terms of exterior design, the Audi Q6L e-tron is positioned in the premium mid-size segment. It boasts a vehicle length of 4,884 millimeters, a width of 1,965 millimeters, and a of 1,687 millimeters. The wheelbase of 2,995 millimeters allows for business-class legroom in the rear seats. The SUV combines the elegance of its long wheelbase and stretched roofline with its striking SUV look, creating an incomparably dynamic appearance.
The innovative lighting technology in the Q6L e-tron marks a new chapter in electric mobility and lighting technology for Audi. The active digital light signature with digital OLED rear lights sets new standards in lighting design, functionality, and road safety. The technology also allows for personalization, with eight digital light signatures available for the Matrix LED headlights and the optional second-generation digital OLED rear lights.
Inside, the Audi Q6L e-tron offers an interior and infotainment system tailored specifically for the Chinese market. Engineers in Beijing and Germany have integrated numerous infotainment functions designed to meet customer needs and reflect the requirements of the Chinese market. The newly developed electronic architecture E3 1.2 provides a future-proof, standardized framework, offering enhanced connectivity and functionality.
The Q6L e-tron also features a range of China-tailored driving assistance functions, including the adaptive Driving Assistant Pro and the Parking Assistant Pro. These functions, based on a comprehensive sensor system and V2X technologies, will assist the driver in broader scenarios for driving and parking.
Production of the Audi Q6L e-tron and other PPE-based models for the Chinese market will take place in a new factory in Changchun. The Audi FAW NEV Company, the production site and headquarters, is committed to Audi’s “Mission:Zero” global environmental program, focusing on decarbonization, responsible water use, resource efficiency, and biodiversity.
With the introduction of the Audi Q6L e-tron, Audi is bringing the technological benefits of its new Premium Platform Electric to China, underscoring its promise to offer electric vehicles in all core segments by 2027.
