Toyota, Lexus, and BMW the Most Reliable Car Brands in the US

While Ford and Chevrolet hold more than 20% revenue share in the American passenger car market, US drivers still prefer Japanese and European cars regarding safety and reliability.

According to data presented by AugustaFreePress.com, Toyota, Lexus, and BMW are the most reliable manufacturers of new cars in the United States, with the highest reliability score based on customer feedback.

Asian Automakers Still Lead in Reliability

The annual survey of US non-profit Consumer Reports, compiled by tracking issues with over 300,000 vehicles in 17 trouble spots in the last year, showed that two legacy brands had significantly moved up and down the chart.

Toyota and Lexus traded places year-over-year, and both hit a reliability score of 72. However, the third-ranked BMW climbed ten spots and won the bronze medal in reliability this year.

Two Japanese car brands, Mazda and Honda round the top five club, with 65 and 62 index points, respectively. Another German car producer, Audi, closely follows, with 60 points, respectively.

While the German BMW climbed ten spots, the US car producer Chevrolet dropped ten ranks, scoring only 40 out of 100 possible index points across all its models.

Statistic show Asian automakers are still leading reliability, with seven of the ten highest-rated car brands in the US and an average reliability score of 59 for the entire region. European automakers ranked second with an average reliability index of 51, while US brands trail behind with a score of 40.

Mazda more Reliable than Tesla, Honda has Beaten Mercedes-Benz

The world`s most valuable car company, Tesla, which came in second-to-last two years ago, managed to climb four ranks but still ranked as a less reliable car than Mazda, Honda, or Audi. The EV manufacturer still faces problems concerning body hardware, steering and suspension, and climate systems on its models, all affecting its reliability score in 2022.

Statistics show that Volkswagen and Jeep dropped even further compared to 2020 and joined the club of the least reliable cars, with 31 and 30 scores, respectively. Still, that was more than the German BMW, which came last with a reliability score of 26 out of 100, three times less than BMW, Mazda, Honda, or Audi.
