HWA AG (HWA) has announced that the first production example of its upcoming HWA EVO is to be sold at auction, as the company continues allocation of the remaining customer build slots.
Chassis 000, the first full production example of HWA’s modern interpretation of the legendary Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.5-16 EVO II, will be painstakingly hand-crafted by HWA’s expert engineers, with no expense spared to create the ultimate contemporary expression of the EVO II’s relentless spirit.
The car will be produced to the highest specification, with its construction also documented in unprecedented detail to inform the creation of the hundred subsequent examples. Signed copies of certain documents will be supplied with the car, with the originals being held in the HWA archive, alongside an archive of exceptional press and event imagery.
One of the standout lots at R.M. Sotheby’s Tegernsee Auction, held in association with the Concours of Elegance Germany, Chassis 000 will go under the hammer on 27 July, offering a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of HWA history.
Assignment of the remaining EVO cars due to be built at the company’s state-of-the-art facility in Affalterbach, Germany, is being overseen directly by HWA itself, with many customers having already secured their chassis number and build slot.
The creation of Hans Werner Aufrecht who, together with Erhard Melcher, founded AMG (Aufrecht, Melcher, Großaspach) in 1967, HWA has developed a reputation as one of the most successful motorsport engineering brands in the world since its inception as a standalone entity in 1998.
A multiple DTM (Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters) winner with legendary drivers including Bernd Schneider, the brand has also enjoyed success in Formula 3, Formula 2, and Formula E. It was additionally responsible for the supply of each Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 and Mercedes-AMG GT3 racing car, playing a key role in the history of one of the world’s most successful GT competitors.
The HWA EVO is far from the brand’s first foray into road-going performance, however. Initially tasked with creating the iconic Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR Strassenversion, HWA also oversaw the realization of both the 2004 Mercedes-Benz CLK-DTM AMG and 2008 Mercedes-Benz SL 65 AMG Black Series, and continues to assist multiple top-tier OEMs in super and hyper car projects to this day.
Based on the Mercedes-Benz W201 series, the HWA EVO takes up the design language of the iconic 190E 2.5-16 EVO II and redefines it for a new age. Developed and produced by HWA using state-of-the-art technology to modernize the powertrain, chassis, brakes, aerodynamics, comfort and safety, the HWA EVO is an uncompromising reinterpretation of a classic. Exact technical specifications will be revealed in the coming months.
Embodying the past and future of HWA AG like no other car, the remaining HWA EVOs are priced from €714,000 (plus local taxes). Cars are being allocated on a global basis, with first units expected to be delivered by the end of 2025, laying the foundations for an international customer community ahead of future product launches.
