The Kia EV4 Hatchback takes a bold step into Europe’s EV market, becoming Kia’s first all-electric C-segment hatchback built locally in Slovakia. With a sharp design, long driving range, and road dynamics tuned in Germany, the EV4 Hatchback is tailored for European roads and expectations.
European Design Meets Practical Proportions
The EV4 Hatchback stands out with a sporty, modern silhouette. Its sloping rear glass, bold EV Tiger Face, and wide-set taillights give it a strong identity. Aerodynamics play a central role, with the hatchback achieving a drag coefficient of 0.27Cd. These elements balance efficiency with a design that signals agility and precision.
Inside, the cabin combines advanced technology with comfort. A free-floating interface, intuitive mix of touchscreens and controls with haptic feedback, and customisable ambient lighting create a refined driving environment. Seating has been optimised to maximise space, offering up to 435 litres of luggage capacity.
Built in Europe, for Europe
Production of the EV4 Hatchback is centred at Kia AutoLand Slovakia in Žilina, where advanced robotics and a skilled workforce enable flexible EV assembly. Local production allows Kia to adapt more effectively to European market needs, making the Hatchback a key addition to the brand’s regional line-up.
Driving Dynamics Tuned in Germany
Engineers at the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim fine-tuned the EV4 Hatchback for European driving conditions. A chassis setup with MacPherson struts at the front and multi-link suspension at the rear ensures balance between agility and comfort.
Additional measures, such as frequency-responsive dampers and hydro-G suspension bushings, reduce noise and vibration. High-speed stability and cornering performance were priorities during development, giving the EV4 Hatchback a confident, safe feel on motorways and city roads alike.
Safety and Driver Assistance
Safety forms a core element of the EV4 Hatchback. Its reinforced body structure integrates multiple load paths around the battery, while the roof can withstand over five times the vehicle’s weight. Side-impact protection is improved through a multi-rib rocker panel design.
Onboard systems include Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision Avoidance Assist, and Highway Driving Assist. Advanced functions like Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control and Remote Smart Parking Assist make daily driving less demanding.
Powertrain and Performance
The EV4 Hatchback comes with two battery options. The long-range 81.4kWh version delivers up to 391 miles (WLTP) and can charge from 10% to 80% in just 31 minutes. A 58.3kWh standard battery option charges slightly quicker at 29 minutes while still providing strong range.
Both battery setups power a 150kW front-mounted motor. Acceleration from 0 to 62mph takes 7.7 seconds with the larger pack and 7.4 seconds with the standard version. Top speed is limited to 105mph. With its aerodynamic efficiency and strong battery performance, the Hatchback is suited to both urban commuting and long-distance travel.
Battery Durability Proven in Testing
Kia subjected the EV4 Hatchback to extensive endurance testing, including a 110,000-kilometre simulation on public roads and a 10,000-kilometre run on the Nürburgring. Even after repeated rapid charging and high-output driving, the battery retained a 95% State-of-Health. This highlights its long-term durability and consistent performance.
Connected Ownership Experience
Integration with the Kia App allows remote vehicle access, real-time charging management, and route planning with charging stops included. Over-the-air updates keep the system current, adding features such as streaming services and AI-powered assistants.
Kia’s charging network now includes over one million public points across Europe, with support from IONITY for high-power stations. Vehicle-to-Load and Vehicle-to-Grid features add further practicality by allowing energy sharing or powering external devices.
Summary
The Kia EV4 Hatchback sets the stage for a new era of Kia in Europe. With local production, advanced safety systems, a proven battery, and range figures up to 391 miles, it is designed with European roads and drivers in mind. Balancing modern design with everyday usability, the EV4 Hatchback establishes itself as a capable and durable electric option.
