The Kvasiny plant of Škoda Auto has successfully rolled out the first units of the updated Škoda Octavia. This marks a significant milestone as the production of the brand’s bestseller expands to this facility, made possible by relocating the new-generation Superb’s manufacturing to the Volkswagen plant in Bratislava. Despite this shift, production of the Octavia continues at Škoda’s main plant in Mladá Boleslav. Since the launch of the modern-generation Octavia in 1996, around 7.5 million units have been produced.
Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, emphasized the importance of this expansion: “By producing additional units of the Škoda Octavia at our Kvasiny plant, we are making efficient use of our flexible production network and fully utilizing our plant capacities. The establishment of a training centre in Kvasiny has been crucial in preparing for this production launch, ensuring our team is well-equipped with the necessary skills. I extend my heartfelt thanks to everyone involved for their dedication and hard work.”
State-of-the-Art Training Centre to Support Production
To support the production of the updated fourth-generation Škoda Octavia at Kvasiny, the carmaker has opened a new training centre at the plant. This facility features state-of-the-art technology, including three robotic workstations for practical training and two classrooms for advanced theoretical instruction. The new Octavia units are being produced on the same line as the Karoq, and the Kodiaq SUV is also built at this plant.
Škoda Octavia: A Legacy of Innovation and Popularity
The modern Škoda Octavia first debuted in 1996, marking a new chapter for the brand as the first model developed entirely under the Volkswagen Group. The Octavia Estate followed in 1998, with an all-wheel-drive variant introduced in 1999. The second-generation Octavia, produced from 2004 to 2013, brought upgrades in engine technology, body robustness, and a distinctive trapezoidal radiator grille.
The third-generation model, built on Volkswagen Group’s MQB A platform, offered impressive boot capacities and, in 2017, introduced split headlights with optional LED technology. The current fourth-generation Octavia, launched in November 2019, is built on an updated MQB platform and includes options for mild-hybrid technology and all-wheel drive. The latest update in the spring of 2024 introduced a refreshed design, second-generation Matrix-LED headlights, enhanced safety and comfort features, and new functionalities such as the integration of ChatGPT into the voice assistant Laura.
With approximately 7.5 million units produced across its four modern generations, the Octavia continues to uphold its legacy, tracing back to the original model produced 65 years ago. The historical Škoda Octavia, available as a two-door saloon or practical estate, saw a total of 360,000 units produced between 1959 and 1971.
