In recent years, Lanzante has become synonymous with delivering showstopping cars at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. For 2024, the British automotive specialists are set to surpass expectations once again, presenting their most diverse and thrilling selection of projects to date, each making its debut. Among the highlights are the first two road-converted examples of the Porsche 935.
Porsche introduced the track-only, 2nd-generation 935 at the Rennsport Reunion in 2019 to celebrate the heritage of their dominant racer. Based on the 911 GT2 RS, this modern interpretation boasts a 3.8-litre six-cylinder twin turbo engine, generating 700bhp. Porsche produced 77 examples, and Lanzante was approached by two owners eager to convert their cars for road use. After an 18-month development and engineering program, these first two road-legal examples will be publicly showcased for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The road conversion includes significant upgrades, such as a unique suspension setup, newly designed and engineered wheels, an upgraded braking system with an integrated handbrake, and a bespoke electronics system. Additionally, Lanzante has skillfully integrated bespoke headlights into the aerodynamic bodywork, mimicking the pre-existing bonnet air intakes to maintain a factory-installed appearance. The two cars on display feature iconic motorsport-inspired liveries: one in a modern interpretation of the red and blue Martini livery and the other in the famous red and white Marlboro chevron design.
Lanzante’s striking trackside stand will also feature an impressive lineup of five McLaren models and two Porsches. The latest Lanzante-developed McLaren P1 HDK will be accompanied by a meticulously recommissioned McLaren Speedtail, which has undergone a full rebuild, including a chassis change and repairs to all hybrid and wiring systems. The aerodynamically optimized bodywork has been replaced, and a bespoke paint finish applied. Three Gulf-liveried GTR models – F1 GTR-97, P1 GTR-18, and Senna GTR – complete the McLaren display.
In addition, the stand will showcase the latest version of the 1980s Formula 1-engined TAG Turbo model. The ninth in a series of 11 cars honors John Watson, who drove with TAG-Porsche power in a McLaren during the 1983 and 1985 seasons. A newly developed, lightweight, and enhanced version of the TAG Turbo, called TAG Championship, will also make its global debut. This model, one of just three to be built, pays homage to four-time Formula 1 champion Alain Prost, featuring his signature patriotic helmet colors.
Another highlight is the ongoing collaboration with ‘Mad Mike’ Whiddett on the ‘MadMac’ drift car. This project, celebrating ten years since Mad Mike introduced drifting to the Festival of Speed, has garnered significant global interest. The unveiling is scheduled for 10 am on the opening day, Thursday, July 11, marking a year since the initial conversations took place on the Lanzante stand at Goodwood.
