The WORLD CAR FINALS POWERED BY BREMBO begins today with the announcement of the Top Ten and Top Five finalists in six World Car Awards vehicle categories. The countdown ends on March 27th when the winners will be announced live at the 2024 New York International Auto Show during an awards ceremony. Today’s vote results have been tabulated by KPMG.
A jury of 100+ distinguished international automotive journalists from 29 countries selected the finalists by secret ballot based on their evaluation of each eligible vehicle as part of their professional work.

The 2024 World Car of the Year (WCOTY) winner will be selected from the following top ten finalists chosen from an initial list of 38 contenders:
- BYD Seal / Atto 4
- Ford Bronco
- Hyundai Kona / Kona Electric
- Hyundai Santa Fe

- Subaru Crosstrek
- Toyota Prius
- Volkswagen ID.7

32 vehicles competed in the World Electric Vehicle category this year. The top five finalists are:
- BMW i5
- Kia EV9
- Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV
- Volkswagen ID.7

There were 13 cars in the 2024 World Luxury Car class. The top five finalists are:
- BMW 5 Series / i5
- Lexus LM
- Mercedes-Benz CLE

The 2024 World Performance Car had 17 cars competing in the category. The top five finalists are:
- BMW M2
- BMW XM

There were seven candidates in the 2024 World Urban Car class. The top five finalists are:
- Abarth 500e

All vehicles competing in the five categories above are eligible for the 2023 World Car Design of the Year award.
A design panel consisting of six highly respected world design experts was asked to first review each candidate, and then establish a short-list of recommendations for the jurors’ final vote. The design experts are in alphabetical order: Gert Hildebrand (Germany – Owner, Hildebrand-Design), Patrick le Quément (France – Designer and President of the Strategy Committee – The Sustainable Design School), Tom Matano (USA – Academy of Art University, Former Head of Design – Mazda), Victor Nacif (USA – Chief Creative Officer, Brojure.com and Design instructor, NewSchool of Architecture and Design), Shiro Nakamura (Japan – CEO, Shiro Nakamura Design Associates Inc.) and Frank Stephenson (UK – Founder, Frank Stephenson Design).
The five finalists chosen by the design panel for the jurors’ winners’ vote in February are:

The countdown excitement will continue to grow when the number of finalists is narrowed down to the Top Three in the World to be announced – live – at the Geneva International Motor Show (GIMS) on Monday, February 26th, 2024. Winners in all six categories will be announced on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 during a live awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS). This year marks the 19th year of the World Car Awards partnership with the show.
