The Toyota GR Corolla has just become even more thrilling. With the introduction of the 8-speed GAZOO Racing Direct Automatic Transmission (DAT) with paddle shifters, both hardcore enthusiasts and those who prefer effortless driving can now experience the excitement of sports car performance.

This latest update follows MORIZO’s challenge to Toyota’s GR team shortly after the GR Corolla’s 2022 reveal. MORIZO, Akio Toyoda, pushed for innovation and untamed energy, leading to the development of the first GR Corolla featuring the new DAT.

Inspired by rigorous track and rally testing, including sessions at Fuji International Speedway, the GR Corolla now boasts an increased engine torque from 273 lb.-ft. to 295 lb.-ft. The vehicle’s suspension components and tuning have also been enhanced, promising an exhilarating driving experience.

Enhanced Driving Dynamics
The new 8-speed DAT is engineered for sports car enthusiasts, providing quick shifting and optimal gear selection. Unlike the automatic transmissions in the GR Supra and GR86, which rely on vehicle behavior sensing, the DAT’s software anticipates gear changes based on driver inputs such as brake and accelerator usage. This results in a more intuitive driving experience, akin to that of professional drivers.

The DAT’s close gear ratios, optimized for both track and everyday driving, ensure that the GR Corolla delivers maximum engine power and torque. With four drive modes—Sport, Normal, ECO, and Custom—the DAT is specifically tuned for the Sport mode, ensuring peak performance and an engaging driving experience.

Power and Performance
For 2025, all GR Corolla models will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged G16E-GTS 3-cylinder engine, delivering 300 horsepower at 6,500 rpm and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. To maintain optimal performance, an automatic transmission fluid cooler is standard on DAT-equipped vehicles, with an optional sub-radiator available on the Premium and Premium Plus Grades.

The GR team has also made significant improvements to the vehicle’s suspension and handling. Enhancements include rebound springs to reduce wheel lift, improved rear coils and stabilizers, and a raised trailing arm mounting point to minimize rear squat and enhance stability during acceleration.

Advanced All-Wheel Drive
At the core of the GR Corolla is the rally-developed GR-FOUR All-Wheel-Drive system, designed in collaboration with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team. This system provides exceptional traction and control with selectable Normal, Gravel, and Track modes, adjusting front/rear wheel torque distribution to match driving conditions.

The 2025 GR Corolla will come standard with front and rear Torsen® Limited-Slip Differentials (LSD), offering improved cornering performance and grip. Additionally, DAT models will feature Launch Control*, enhancing acceleration off the line.

Arrival and Availability
The new GR Corolla models, featuring the 8-speed DAT, are expected to arrive at Toyota dealerships this Winter. Further details and pricing will be announced later this year.
