Nilu27, the new hypercar brand founded by acclaimed sports car designer Sasha Selipanov, proudly unveils its inaugural vehicle: the self-titled NILU hypercar. After a series of tantalizing social media teasers, the hypercar can now be revealed in all its glory.
Challenging Conventional Automotive Norms
The NILU hypercar stands apart from current trends by avoiding electrification, digitalization, and other technological aids, focusing instead on delivering a pure, unfiltered driving experience. Inspired by a diverse range of influences—including ’60s F1 and Le Mans racers, classic Italian design, Bauhaus philosophy, American muscle cars, drift vehicles, mathematics, and avant-garde metal music—the NILU’s design is both eclectic and original.
Sasha Selipanov aimed to create a car with an “inevitable” design: one that feels fresh yet familiar. The resulting exterior features tight cross sections and sinuous curves, blending functional aerodynamics with clean sculptural surfaces and an intricately detailed engine bay. The NILU embraces the Bauhaus philosophy, celebrating essential functional beauty without unnecessary styling elements.
Bespoke Engineering and Design
The NILU’s bespoke carbon fiber monocoque chassis is complemented by lightweight aluminum-alloy tubular subframes. This tubular approach enhances access to the drivetrain and facilitates efficient heat extraction, while showcasing the mechanical aesthetic. The cabin, designed for optimal viewing angles and ergonomics, seats two adults in a side-by-side layout with substantial gullwing doors for easy ingress and egress.
The NILU emphasizes manual, analog controls for a pure driving experience. The only screen in the vehicle is the rear-view camera/mirror, addressing the visibility challenges of mid-engined sports cars. The steering wheel, devoid of switches and buttons, ensures full concentration with zero distractions. An open-gate, seven-speed manual transmission and manual adjustments for various controls underscore the car’s dedication to raw, analog driving pleasure.
Production and Vision
The NILU hypercar is a culmination of Sasha Selipanov’s vision, honed since 2006. Production will be extremely limited, with only 15 units planned. Selipanov reflects, “Unveiling NILU is a dream come true, the result of a decades-long search, sleepless nights, and overanalyzing. My team and I are thrilled to bring this vision to life.”
V12 Engine
Nilu27 has partnered with Hartley Engines to produce the NILU’s 6.5-liter V12 engine. This naturally aspirated engine, expected to deliver over 1000 horsepower, features a unique “Hot V” configuration and 3D-printed Inconel exhaust system. The engine’s design emphasizes raw, emotional performance and innovative engineering, with aggressive cams, high-flow ports, and a bespoke layout.
Nelson Hartley, CEO of Hartley Engines, shared his excitement: “We’ve designed a bespoke V12 that’s aggressive, emotional, and raw. It’s a perfect match for Sasha’s vision and our own engineering ambitions.”
Dynamic Performance
The NILU hypercar features double wishbone pushrod suspension and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tires for exceptional handling. Custom 10×20” and 13×21” centerlock wheels, produced by AppTech in Italy, complement the carbon-ceramic braking system with Brembo’s GT | BM calipers and CCM-R Plus rotors.
Looking Ahead
Initial prototypes and customer cars will be assembled by Aria Group in Irvine, CA, with future production ramping up overseas. Nilu27 is also developing a street homologated version, limited to 54 units, with four unique, one-off designs.
Inna Selipanov, Co-Founder and COO, noted, “Despite the industry’s shift towards electrification, we believe in the timeless appeal of these cars. They will continue to captivate passionate car lovers.”
The NILU hypercar will be unveiled to a select VIP and media group at a private event in Los Angeles on August 8. Its public debut will follow on August 15 at Pebble Beach in Monterey, California, with an appearance on the Concept Lawn at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 18.
Additionally, the NILU hypercar will make its debut in CSR Racing 2, the hyper-real mobile racing game from Zynga’s NaturalMotion, this November.
