Toyota has unveiled the all-new Crown Sport Hybrid in Japan, expanding its iconic Crown lineup with a bold and emotionally driven SUV. Orders for the hybrid model are now open, with market launch set for November. A plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant will follow around December, along with the introduction of the Crown Sedan and Crown Estate models later this fiscal year.
Bold New Design Philosophy
The new Crown Sport reflects a distinctive evolution of the brand’s DNA, blending athletic design with refined performance. Positioned as the most creative model in the Crown family, it introduces a sculpted, expressive exterior featuring bold rear fenders, wide 21-inch wheels, and a hammerhead front design that captures attention with sharp, fearless styling. The overall stance communicates a low center of gravity and confident presence on the road.
Refined and Expressive Interior
Inside, the cabin embraces a unique “island architecture” layout, with asymmetrical design cues that define the driver and passenger zones. The driver’s side is finished in black for a focused driving environment, while the passenger side offers a more relaxed, textured ambiance. Displays are arranged to minimize eye movement and enhance concentration, while a new Sand Brown and Black interior scheme supports a natural, modern lifestyle aesthetic.
Enhanced Accessibility and Comfort
Toyota has also focused on passenger accessibility, designing the Crown Sport to be easy to enter and exit thanks to its elevated hip point and refined rocker panel shapes. A first for Toyota, the vehicle features a sound-regulating ceiling that helps foster quiet, clear conversations between occupants, enhancing the premium in-cabin experience.
Dynamic Performance and Powertrain
Beneath the elegant design lies a chassis engineered for dynamic driving. The Crown Sport is equipped with a refined suspension system and Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS), offering precise control and responsiveness across all speeds. A 2.5-liter Series Parallel Hybrid system delivers a balance of efficiency and power, with smooth low-speed responsiveness and direct acceleration. The PHEV model will add a high-output motor and a new large-capacity lithium-ion battery, allowing extended EV-mode driving without compromising cabin space.
Advanced Safety Technologies
Safety remains a core focus, with the latest Toyota Safety Sense technologies standard. Features include Proactive Driving Assist, Advanced Drive support for traffic congestion, Advanced Park with remote capability, Blind Spot Monitor, Panoramic View Monitor, and Safe Exit Assist.
Intelligent Connectivity
Advanced connectivity is also built in, including connected navigation via the Toyota Smart Center and a fallback onboard navigation system. A crisp 12.3-inch high-definition display enhances usability and aesthetics.
Flexible Ownership with KINTO
The Crown Sport will be available through the KINTO subscription service, offering customers a hassle-free ownership experience with maintenance, taxes, and insurance bundled into a fixed monthly fee starting from 66,550 yen.
Production and Pricing
Production of the new Crown Sport takes place at Toyota’s Tsutsumi Plant, with an expected monthly sales volume of 700 units in Japan. The Sport Z grade is priced at 5,900,000 yen and features the 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain with E-Four all-wheel drive.
