The 2024 Colorado Shelby Rally proved to be an unforgettable journey for Ford enthusiasts, transforming Colorado’s picturesque hills and valleys into a playground for high-performance vehicles. This annual event, which navigated over 1,100 miles, culminated at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, Colorado, blending scenic drives with charity and camaraderie.
The rally kicked off in Cripple Creek, Colorado, with a vibrant kickoff party. Event organizer Aaron Kerry orchestrated a spectacular gathering by blocking off the main strip, allowing participants to showcase their vehicles and enjoy the local attractions, including the town’s casinos. “Cripple Creek was a fantastic start to the rally, and everyone had a blast trying their luck,” said Kerry.
The following day, participants embarked on the rally’s main event, winding their way through Colorado’s stunning Million Dollar Highway en route to the Shelby American Collection. This year’s rally featured a notable lineup, including a 2005 Ford GT and a 2018 Ford GT among the 32 Shelbys present. Former Ford designer Camilo Pardo, who penned the 2005 Ford GT, and Shelby legend Allen Grant joined the convoy, offering their insights and signing autographs.
At the Shelby American Collection, Pardo painted a special 40” x 60” mural to commemorate the event. This artwork will be auctioned at the Annual Shelby American Collection Car Show, with proceeds benefiting the Carroll Shelby Foundation and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
First-time rally participant Daniel Valdez, driving his 2009 Shelby GT500, described the experience as a highlight of his automotive journey. “Meeting Allen Grant and Camilo Pardo, and driving through those stunning mountain passes, was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Valdez shared. He encouraged others to attend future rallies, emphasizing the fun and community spirit.
Kevin Miller, a veteran of every Colorado Shelby Rally since its inception, drove a 2020 Shelby GT500 this year. For Miller, the rally’s appeal lies in connecting with fellow enthusiasts and enjoying the scenic drives. “Meeting people from all over the country who share the same passion is what makes this event special,” he said. Miller also praised the event’s organization, including the nightly raffles and giveaways orchestrated by Kerry.
The Shelby American Collection, featuring the largest collection of Shelby race cars in the world, remains a standout highlight of the rally. “Ending the rally with a private tour of the collection is always a treat,” Miller noted.
