Seventy Years of Passion: Celebrating the Porsche Club of America

Porsche Club of America

The Porsche Club of America (PCA) turns 70 in 2025, celebrating decades of shared passion and dedication to Porsche vehicles. Founded in 1955 by Washington, D.C. artist Bill Sholar, PCA began as a small gathering of Porsche enthusiasts and has grown into the largest Porsche club in the world with over 145,000 members.

A Humble Beginning

The Club’s origin story is charmingly personal. Sholar purchased a 1953 Porsche 356 Coupé and began greeting fellow Porsche drivers with flashes of his headlights. That small gesture evolved into the first official PCA meeting on 13 September 1955. Just a year later, PCA hosted its first national gathering, the Porsche Parade, in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Sixty-four members attended, laying the foundation for an annual tradition that continues to this day.

70 Years of Community and Celebration

Fast forward to 2025, and PCA remains true to its founding spirit. The 69th Porsche Parade, held in Oklahoma City from 6 to 12 July, highlighted the anniversary year. The event featured driving tours, concours competitions, technical workshops, and social gatherings, proving that PCA is not just about cars, but about people and shared experiences.

A Special Tribute: 911 Carrera T Club Coupé

To commemorate the 70th anniversary, PCA collaborated with Porsche Sonderwunsch and Style Porsche to produce the 911 Carrera T Club Coupé. Painted in “Sholar Blue,” a metallic reinterpretation of Club Blau, the car honors PCA’s founder Bill Sholar. Designed by Porsche legend Grant Larson, only 70 units will be made, exclusively for PCA members in the U.S. and Canada. This limited-edition model combines heritage, exclusivity, and Porsche’s signature performance.

The Heart of PCA: People and Passion

Perhaps the most touching moments of the Parade came from the people. Hans-Peter Porsche, son of Ferry Porsche, attended alongside his son Daniell and grandson Tamino. This marked his 33rd Parade, emphasizing the Club’s motto: “It’s not just the cars; it’s the people.” PCA thrives because of the community it fosters, creating lasting friendships and experiences that go far beyond driving.

Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter

As PCA enters its eighth decade, it continues to grow and evolve. From driving tours to community outreach, technical workshops to concours competitions, the Club remains a vibrant hub for Porsche enthusiasts of all ages. The vehicles may change, but the spirit of PCA, rooted in camaraderie, passion, and shared automotive enjoyment, remains timeless.
