Nyobolt Sportscar’s 5-Minute EV Charging Breakthrough

Nyobolt, in collaboration with CALLUM, has unveiled a driveable EV prototype featuring their groundbreaking ultra-fast charging battery technology. This prototype showcases Nyobolt’s promise of eliminating slow and inconvenient recharge stops, moving from lab tests to real-world performance.

Ultra-Fast Charging Breakthrough
Nyobolt’s EV prototype, tested with a 350kW DC charger, can charge its battery from 10 to 80 per cent in under five minutes. This is twice as fast as the current fastest-charging vehicles, without the typical degradation of lithium-ion batteries. Independent testing confirms the batteries can endure over 4,000 fast charge cycles, equivalent to 600,000 miles, while maintaining over 80 per cent capacity.

Advanced Battery Technology
Founded in 2019 and based in Cambridge, Nyobolt leverages patented carbon and metal oxide anode materials, innovative cell design, and integrated power electronics to support high-demand applications like EVs and heavy-duty trucks. The Nyobolt EV’s 50Ah 35kWh battery can achieve a full charge in four minutes and 37 seconds, offering a range of 155 WLTP miles.

Sustainable and Durable Performance
Nyobolt’s batteries demonstrate exceptional longevity, with testing showing minimal degradation after thousands of fast charge cycles. This endurance is achieved through advanced low impedance cell chemistry, which reduces heat generation and prolongs battery life.

High-Performance, Lightweight Design
The Nyobolt EV sports car prototype, weighing just 1,250kg, highlights the efficiency and performance potential of Nyobolt’s technology. It enables the creation of lighter, more energy-efficient electric vehicles that are cheaper to manufacture and operate.

Scalable Production and Broad Applications
Nyobolt plans to scale battery production, aiming for low volume by next year and up to 1,000 packs in 2025. The technology is also compatible with retrofitting existing EV platforms, offering significant improvements in charge time and battery life.

Strong Industry Interest
Nyobolt is currently in talks with eight OEMs to integrate its technology into high-performance EVs. The company’s ultra-fast charging batteries are also being considered for use in robotics and heavy-duty commercial vehicles, highlighting the versatility and broad appeal of this innovation.
