Mercedes-AMG Reorganizes Motorsport Division, Launches Affalterbach Racing GmbH

Mercedes-AMG has taken a significant step in reorganizing its motorsport division to meet future needs, establishing a new subsidiary named Affalterbach Racing GmbH. This company will handle all conceptual and technical customer sport activities, including the development of the new Mercedes-AMG GT3. Additionally, Mercedes-AMG plans to acquire part of its long-standing partner HWA AG, with both companies signing a letter of intent. This reorganization reaffirms AMG’s commitment to GT Sport.

Affalterbach Racing GmbH: Successor to Mercedes-AMG GT3
Motorsport is integral to Mercedes-AMG’s DNA, with expertise in this field extending across all development areas. Affalterbach Racing GmbH will leverage this knowledge, applying it to future projects and creating synergy effects with AMG road vehicle development. The first project is the successor to the Mercedes-AMG GT3, aiming to continue AMG’s success in international Customer Racing.

The new GT3 racing car will be based on a derivative of the Mercedes-AMG GT family. The second generation of the two-door AMG GT was introduced in 2023, with the family recently expanding to include the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+. Affalterbach Racing GmbH, headquartered in Affalterbach, will work closely with the Mercedes-AMG Motorsport team, which will continue coordinating international motorsport activities.

Future Cooperation with HWA AG
In addition to founding the new company, Mercedes-AMG plans to acquire HWA AG’s customer motorsport division. Intensive talks are underway, with both parties having signed a non-binding term sheet. The planned integration aims to enhance Mercedes-AMG Customer Racing’s high standards, including international customer service and spare parts support across Europe, the U.S., China, and Australia.

HWA AG will continue its other business areas, such as the HWA EVO project, independently. This project reinterprets the iconic Mercedes-Benz 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II, which AMG supports.
