McMurtry Spéirling PURE Fan Car Breaks Records at Hockenheimring

On June 7th and 8th, 2024, the Spéirling PURE (Validation Prototype 1) fan car made a striking debut to track-driving enthusiasts at the Hockenheimring F1 circuit during the Dörr Group Track Day. The innovative hypercar was showcased in both shared and exclusive sessions, with the shared sessions featuring other track-focused and race cars.

The Dörr Group organized two dedicated sessions exclusively for McMurtry, allowing guests to experience the fan car’s performance without any interruptions. To add to the excitement, local timekeepers installed a laser lap timer on the start-finish straight. On June 8th, 2024, the Spéirling PURE, running at 75% power and 75% downforce, clocked a lap time of 1:24.43 on the 2.842-mile F1 circuit. This remarkable achievement was verified by independent timekeepers and driven by former F1 driver Max Chilton, who holds the record at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

This lap time was 14.1 seconds faster than the Mercedes-AMG One, an exclusive track-focused hypercar, achieved in 2022. Additionally, it was 3.907 seconds quicker than the DTM qualifying time in 2020, making the Spéirling PURE the fastest closed-wheel car ever around Hockenheimring.

The McMurtry Spéirling PURE is a hyper-track car available for order worldwide. It features a unique downforce-on-demand system that provides exceptional grip and downforce right from 0 mph. This system complements the 1000 bhp electric powertrain, offering selectable performance drive modes from GT3 to F1-level speeds.

Max Chilton, the test driver, expressed his excitement about showcasing the car at such a bustling track event. He mentioned the thrill of driving through the famous bends of Hockenheim, experiencing the same sensations he did during his F1 career a decade ago. Chilton remarked, “The Spéirling PURE is a great way for track drivers to experience the same thing.”

Thomas Yates, Managing Director of McMurtry Automotive, highlighted the curiosity and interest guests showed in the story behind fan cars and their potential future for track drivers. He thanked the Dörr Group and Hockenheim for hosting the event and emphasized that achieving another record is a significant milestone for the McMurtry team and their customers.
