To celebrate the 50th anniversary of Tignanello, one of the most influential red wines ahead of its time, Maserati has crafted a customized Fuoriserie version of its latest creation, the GranCabrio Folgore. This model is the most futuristic expression of the current 100% electric production from the Modena-based brand. The bespoke car, exclusively created for Marchesi Antinori, will be auctioned on July 14 at Festival Napa Valley’s Arts for All Gala—one of the leading arts charity events in the US.
For the 110th anniversary of the Trident, Maserati joins forces with Marchesi Antinori, a family winery with over 600 years of history, handed down through 26 generations. The production of Marchesi Antinori and Tignanello reflects the feeling and passion that have always characterized the spirit of Maserati, a pioneer in the history of motoring.
The car’s design draws inspiration from the vineyard, a metaphor for roots and territory. Maserati has paid homage to the Florentine family of winemakers through the colors, innovative materials, and refined artisan details that make the GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello an ode to the prestigious Tignanello vineyard and its 50-year legacy.
Exterior and Interior Design
The GranCabrio Folgore Tignanello features a custom body color, Terra di Tignanello, inspired by the vineyard’s soil. The car’s rich, metallic chestnut paint is warmed by coppery burgundy shades reminiscent of Tignanello’s barriques. The rims and callipers come in matte and gloss black, respectively, with emblems in copper. The soft top fabric is black.
Inside, the car’s seats are embellished with a multi-material silver and burgundy ribbed weave, made of Vegea, an innovative fabric derived from vineyards. The fabric resembles leather and is used for the first time in a Maserati car. Dark briar wood with lasering, selected to recall the printing on oak barrels, embellishes the panels. The headrests feature elegant embroidery combining the Maserati Trident with Tignanello’s hallmark sun symbol. The central tunnel is lasered with the dates 1971-2021, marking the first and current vintage of Tignanello.
Collaboration and Charity Auction
Klaus Busse, Maserati Head of Design, emphasized the collaboration with Marchesi Antinori as an opportunity to epitomize the essence of Bespoke production, creating tailor-made cars for an exceptional driving experience. Piero Antinori expressed pride in the collaboration, highlighting the car’s unique identity inspired by Tignanello. The special GranCabrio Folgore will be auctioned at Festival Napa Valley’s 2024 Arts for All Gala, with proceeds donated to charity.
GranCabrio Folgore: A Benchmark in Electric Luxury
The GranCabrio Folgore is Maserati’s latest addition, the first 100% electric convertible in the luxury segment, and the fastest on the market. Equipped with a battery system based on 800V technology and developed with cutting-edge solutions from Formula E, the car offers outstanding performance, comfort, style, and elegance. The Maserati GranCabrio provides four true seats, made possible by the soft top, and features innovative systems such as a neck warmer and wind stopper for a comfortable ride even with the top down.
Tignanello: A Milestone in Winemaking
Tignanello was the first Sangiovese aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional grape varieties like Cabernet, and one of the first Chianti Classico reds to exclude white grapes. Crafted from a careful selection of Sangiovese and Cabernet from the Tenuta Tignanello vineyard, the wine embodies the Antinori family’s motto, “Te Duce Proficio” (Following your guide, I flourish).
