From Classic to Cutting-Edge: 1968 Camaro with LS376/480 Crate Engine

Steve Weaver’s journey with his 1968 Camaro began nearly 35 years ago during a home remodeling project, where he purchased the classic car from a contractor. Initially an original blue RS Z/28 with a custom 350 cu.-in. engine, Weaver’s Camaro has undergone a remarkable transformation powered by a Chevrolet Performance LS376/480 crate engine.

Unveiled at the Barrett-Jackson Cup in January 2024, this stunning black Camaro, a standout at the Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals, showcases the craftsmanship of Mike Goldman Customs. The build, which took nearly three years, features a modern LS376/480 engine, enhanced with a Whipple supercharger and a racing-inspired LS Hot Cam, delivering 495 horsepower and 473 lb.-ft. of torque.

The Camaro’s transformation includes a TREMEC T56 six-speed manual transmission, an Art Morrison Enterprises chassis with advanced suspension, and one-off Mike Curtis wheels. Custom elements, such as a deeper cowl hood for the supercharger and updated Z/28 badging, complement its classic design. The interior, now in red with modern upgrades, was meticulously crafted by Steve Holcomb’s Pro Auto Custom Interiors.

Weaver, a lifelong automotive enthusiast and businessman, has a diverse collection of GM vehicles. His Camaro’s accolades, including the Meguiar’s Magnificent Masterpiece award and recognition in the GM Iron category at Goodguys, highlight the success of this visionary restomod project. The transformation of Weaver’s Camaro is a testament to his passion and the exceptional work of Mike Goldman Customs.
