Max Verstappen Singapore F1 practice 2025 session was a reminder of just how tight the fight at the front is. The Red Bull driver posted a 1:30.148 to edge Oscar Piastri’s McLaren by 0.017s, while Mercedes’ George Russell was only 0.049s off the pace.
Early Stages and First Runs
Lando Norris opened with a 1:32.379 on Medium tyres, leading his team-mate Piastri. Williams brought out Soft tyres, with Carlos Sainz briefly taking P1 on 1:31.960. Norris improved further with a 1:31.021, regaining top spot. Soon after, Liam Lawson crashed at Turn 7, bringing out the red flags for barrier repairs.
Verstappen Builds Momentum
After the restart, Verstappen joined the action. His first timed effort placed him in fourth, before Lewis Hamilton pushed him down to fifth. Officials noted Hamilton for a potential red flag infringement during this stage. Rookie Kimi Antonelli then impressed with 1:30.760 on Softs, momentarily topping the timesheets.
The Field Tightens Up
Charles Leclerc responded with 1:30.651 to move into P1, before Isack Hadjar vaulted to second. McLaren quickly answered, with Norris lowering the benchmark to 1:30.292. That time stood until Verstappen’s purple middle sector gave him P1 at 1:30.146. Russell then moved to second with 1:30.197.
Late Flyers from McLaren and Mercedes
Piastri saved his best until the end, delivering 1:30.165 to finish just 0.017s off Verstappen. Antonelli matched Norris on identical times of 1:30.237, placing both within 0.089s of the top. The session closed with the leading five cars separated by less than one tenth of a second.
