CUPRA continues its journey to shake up the industry and keep challenging conventions after only four years of existence. At this year’s Auto Motor und Sport Awards, CUPRA reached fourth place in the “Trendiest Brand” category and won the “Best Cars 2023″ in the “Compact SUV/Off-road Vehicle – Import” category.
The CUPRA brand and its Formentor Crossover SUV continue to stand out from the crowd, garnering a huge number of votes from the more than 100,000 Auto Motor und Sport readers. Since 2018, CUPRA has won three AMS awards in addition to 123 awards globally. It has also been a finalist of the prestigious COTY for every vehicle it has launched.
“CUPRA rocks Germany and shows once again what it means to be a Challenger brand. The readers’ choice is the best confirmation of this. As an importer, it feels great to be able to mix it up with the many strong German competitors in the trend question,” said CUPRA CEO Wayne Griffith. “But we’re also celebrating the success of the CUPRA Formentor. It makes us stand out from the crowd. The CUPRA Formentor is different and that is being rewarded once again.”
The CUPRA Formentor received the most votes from readers in the category “Compact SUV/Off-road Vehicle – Import”. It’s the second time in a row that the CUPRA Formentor has won this incredibly competitive category.
Auto Motor und Sport listed a total of 64 compact SUVs and off-road vehicles, each vying for the votes of 101,550 participants in the election. The win is proof of the CUPRA Formentor’s ability to stand out from the crowd. Something the title’s readers appreciated.

The Auto Motor und Sport readers’ poll is an institution in the industry. For the 47th time, the trade magazine asked readers to vote on the best vehicles. The competition consisted 422 models in 13 categories (each with overall and import rating).
It’s why gaining fourth position in the “Trendiest Brand’ and “Best Cars 2023″ win are so impressive, and continues CUPRA’s success in the awards; last year the CUPRA Formentor won six awards, including victory in the “Best Cars” category.
Winning honours in the Auto Motor und Sport readers’ poll is only part of the story. The CUPRA Formentor’s sales figures clearly show that the Crossover SUV is one of the most popular in Germany. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) last year placed it among the best-selling SUVs. In addition, the CUPRA Formentor made a significant contribution to the brand’s record figures in Germany in 2022 by accounting for more than 50 percent of new registrations. The challenger brand sold a total of 32,639 CUPRA Formentor in Germany – an increase of 85.4 percent compared to the previous year.
