Audi A5 Teased: Next-Gen A4 Successor Previewed

Audi has unveiled a tantalizing glimpse into its upcoming lineup with the first official teaser of the forthcoming A5, set to make its global debut on July 16. This new iteration will take over from the A4 and will be presented in Sportback and Avant variants. Adding to the excitement, Audi CEO Gernot Döllner confirmed that the fully electric A6 e-tron will be unveiled later in July, followed by the all-new Audi Q5 arriving this autumn.

Döllner expressed his anticipation, stating, “In just a few days, we will introduce the next model family: the Audi A5. The Audi A6 e-tron will follow in late July, and the new Audi Q5 in fall.”

Accompanying this announcement was a singular sketch showcasing the rear view of the Audi A5 Avant. Noteworthy features include expansive full-width taillights likely integrating Audi’s cutting-edge OLED technology. The sleek rear glass and prominent spoiler contribute to a distinctly athletic posture, distinguishing it from its predecessor, the A4 Avant.

Discussing the new A5 lineup, Döllner emphasized that it will herald “the dawn of the next generation of combustion engines, enhanced by hybrid technology for improved efficiency.” These remarks hint at a variety of mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, with the latter promising a zero-emission range exceeding 100 kilometers (62 miles). The MLB-based Audi A5 will not include a fully electric variant, as this niche is reserved for a future model akin to the A4, set for release later.

Turning to the A6 e-tron, Döllner highlighted it as Audi’s inaugural electric vehicle to launch in both Sportback and Avant configurations, boasting “striking design” and delivering exceptional performance, efficiency, and range.
