The second practice for the Singapore GP 2025 brought plenty of drama, with Oscar Piastri taking top spot in a session stopped twice by red flags. The McLaren driver posted a lap of 1:30.714, just enough to stay clear of Racing Bulls’ Isack Hadjar and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen.
Piastri Sets the Early Benchmark
In the opening minutes, Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli briefly led before Norris jumped ahead with a 1:32.226. Carlos Sainz slotted into third, showing competitive pace in the Williams. Piastri then moved to the front with a 1:31.716, holding off Norris by 0.007 seconds.
Lewis Hamilton positioned his Ferrari in fourth, only a tenth back. The session looked set for a steady rhythm until George Russell clipped the barriers at Turn 16, damaging his Mercedes and forcing the first red flag stoppage.
Red Flags Shake Up the Session
Once the track returned to green, Haas’ Esteban Ocon surprised with a 1:31.480. But the momentum was halted again when Liam Lawson lost control and struck the wall at Turn 17. His Racing Bulls suffered suspension and tyre damage, ending his day early and triggering another stoppage.
With just over ten minutes remaining, the field rushed out to complete qualifying simulations. A pit-lane clash between Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris disrupted the sequence, leaving stewards with an investigation to review.

On soft tyres, Verstappen briefly took control with a 1:30.857, edging ahead of Fernando Alonso. But Piastri struck back with 1:30.714 on used tyres. Hadjar then delivered a late charge, slipping between the two champions with 1:30.846, leaving Verstappen in third.
Alonso placed fourth with another consistent run, while Norris settled for fifth after backing out of his soft tyre attempt. Lance Stroll delivered a strong lap in sixth, followed by Ocon, Sainz, Leclerc, and Hamilton rounding out the top ten.
Performance Insights at Marina Bay
Piastri’s best lap averaged 195.528 km/h around the tight Marina Bay layout. His edge over Hadjar and Verstappen was slim, showing the weekend could swing either way. The interrupted running limited long stints, but McLaren looked competitive against both Red Bull and Aston Martin.
Behind them, Ferrari drivers struggled for consistency, while Haas impressed with Ocon inside the top seven. Williams showed flashes of speed with Sainz, but Albon could only manage 13th. Mercedes endured a difficult session, with Russell out early and Antonelli down in 18th.
