Hedley Studios’ Ferrari Testa Rossa J ‘Lucybelle II’ Unveiled

Ferrari Testa Rossa J ‘Lucybelle II’

Hedley Studios has unveiled the Ferrari Testa Rossa J ‘Lucybelle II’, a hand-built, weathered tribute to one of Ferrari’s most celebrated privateer entries. This latest special edition captures the No.22 ‘Lucybelle II’ Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa as it would have appeared at the finish of the 1958 24 Hours of Le Mans.

A Tribute Born of Racing Passion

Driven by Americans Ed Hugus and Ray “Ernie” Erickson, ‘Lucybelle II’ stood apart from factory teams, finished in Bianco Cervino with striking blue stripes. Its character and racing pedigree earned instant cult status. Hedley Studios spent 12 months researching and consulting with Ferrari’s Centro Stile to recreate every detail, telling the car’s full story from original livery to post-race patina.

Hand-Applied Weathered Livery

Each of the three editions features authentic white-and-blue paint with No.22 roundels, US flag, Ferrari shields, and the ‘Lucybelle II’ name. Traditional masking techniques and hand-sprayed paint deliver precision and depth. The hand-applied 100-hour patina process recreates track dirt, scuffs, and racewear, including subtle paint bleed and worn panel joints. Hidden areas, such as tyres and the underside, receive the same careful treatment.

Crafting a Modern Classic

The Testa Rossa J ‘Lucybelle II’ is a fully driveable 75% scale recreation. Hand-built using aluminium bodywork and Ferrari archive drawings, it includes:

  • 12-inch wire wheels with Pirelli Cinturato tyres
  • Working headlights, taillights, horn, and period racing lights
  • Red leather interior with white piping sourced from Ferrari tanneries
  • Nardi steering wheel with quick-release hub
  • Remastered EV dials preserving original fonts and layout
  • Ferrari 812-inspired Manettino with four drive modes: Novice (1kW/24 km/h), Comfort (4kW/40 km/h), Sport (10kW/80 km/h), Race (12kW/80 km/h)

Bilstein coilover dampers and custom springs ensure precise handling, approved by Ferrari test drivers at Fiorano. Three front-mounted batteries provide up to 90km of range, charging via a retrofitted fuel cap.

Power, Performance, and Electric Innovation

The four drive modes balance performance and accessibility. Novice mode keeps speeds low, perfect for cautious handling, while Race mode maximizes output at 12kW. The EV powertrain delivers smooth, controllable acceleration, making the car a modern, driveable classic.

A Story Etched in Every Detail

Ben Hedley, Founder and CEO, emphasized authenticity: “Lucybelle II is part of Ferrari folklore. Every mark, stripe, and patina reflects endurance, individuality, and the spirit of racing.” Nothing in the build is for effect; every detail is intentional.

The Ferrari Testa Rossa J ‘Lucybelle II’ represents more than an automotive replica. It is a living homage to history, blending heritage, craftsmanship, and modern electric performance into a unique, driveable work of art.
