CONCEPT AMG GT XX: Racing “Around the World” in Eight Days

CONCEPT AMG GT XX

The CONCEPT AMG GT XX is more than a concept car; it is a bold statement about the future of performance. Mercedes-AMG pushed this machine to extremes at the Nardò test track in Italy, and the results are nothing short of breathtaking. Covering 40,075 kilometers in just over seven days, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX proved that electric endurance has officially entered a new era.

Record-Breaking Journey

The highlight achievement was a run equivalent to circling the Earth’s equator in only eight days. In reality, the CONCEPT AMG GT XX completed the challenge in 7 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes, and 7 seconds. Along the way, it shattered 25 endurance records, including the most distance ever covered by an electric vehicle in 24 hours: 5,479 km, far beyond the previous mark of under 4,000 km.

CONCEPT AMG GT XX Power and Performance

Underpinning this extraordinary run is a drivetrain that delivers over 1,000 kW, equivalent to more than 1,340 horsepower. Three axial flux motors, paired with a directly cooled high-performance battery, enabled speeds of 300 km/h sustained over days. Charging was just as impressive: with an average of 850 kW, the concept recharged energy for 400 km of driving in only five minutes. These figures show what the upcoming AMG.EA architecture will bring to future production models.

Technology Born from Motorsport

Axial flux motors are at the heart of this performance. They are lighter, more compact, and three times as power-dense as conventional motors. Their efficiency and continuous output allowed the CONCEPT AMG GT XX to push at maximum levels without interruption. The high-performance battery, directly cooled at the cell level, maintained optimal temperatures under scorching track conditions, ensuring both speed and durability. Inspired by Formula 1 engineering, this system represents the future of AMG powertrains.

A Test of Endurance and Teamwork

Achieving this feat required more than engineering. Two CONCEPT AMG GT XX vehicles ran simultaneously, both completing the challenge almost side by side. Drivers rotated in two-hour shifts, while pit crews managed tires, charging, and safety. The effort echoed legendary endurance racing, proving that Mercedes-AMG still thrives on pushing boundaries. Even with ambient temperatures reaching 35°C, the cars never faltered.

Why the CONCEPT AMG GT XX Matters

This program was not just about records. It was about proving that high-performance electric vehicles can achieve what once seemed impossible. The CONCEPT AMG GT XX shows that the future of performance will not compromise speed, endurance, or excitement. Instead, it sets a new benchmark for what electric mobility can deliver in the real world.
