Porsche’s Enduring Legacy: RSR Evolution

Capturing over 40 years of racing excellence from Porsche’s legendary RSR program are two important examples. First, a 2017 Porsche 911 RSR-17. Second, a 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR. The 911 RSR-17 traces its roots back to the legendary Carrera RSR of the 1970s. This is a revolutionary Porsche racing car. It wore a heritage “Coca-Cola” livery, evoking memories of Bob Akin’s partnership. This example, chassis 905, was even used in a promotional film. Porsche factory driver Patrick Long starred in it.

Vintage RSR Charm: The 1974 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR

For those who prefer vintage racing Porsches, the accomplished 911 Carrera 3.0 RSR is truly special. It is the 7th of just 37 examples built for the 1974 model year. It is believed to be one of the most successful RSR 3.0s ever raced. This example totaled 17 podium finishes. It also had seven 1st in Class finishes. Furthermore, it achieved nine 1st place finishes for the 1977 season alone. This two-time Swiss National Championship winner was campaigned extensively by its first owner, Harry Blumer. Drivers Edwin Kofel and Edy Brandenberger also raced it.

During the ownership of its recent caretaker, this 3.0 RSR participated in Rennsport IV, V, and VI. It also ran in the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca. It has received major and comprehensive mechanical servicing. Marque expert Bruce Canepa performed these services. This includes a complete engine rebuild in 2025.
