A rare 1970 Ford Escort Mexico, regarded as the oldest known surviving Ford Advanced Vehicle Operations (AVO) car, is set to go under the hammer with H&H Classics. Built in October 1970, just a month before official production began, this significant piece of Ford history is expected to fetch between £60,000 and £70,000 at an auction held at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford on Wednesday, 9th October.
The Escort Mexico is one of the first high-performance cars produced by Ford’s AVO division, known for crafting Ford’s most powerful road cars. Featuring an ‘LVX’ press registration plate, this Mexico underwent a thorough restoration between 2006 and 2017, with over £60,000 reportedly spent to return it to its original factory specifications.
Accompanied by a rich history, including a rare Escort Mexico sales brochure and the original buff logbook, this model has unique provenance. It was even loaned to Hendon police college for pursuit training before being acquired by a police officer.
Paul Cheetham, motor car specialist at H&H Classics, expressed excitement for the auction: “Opportunities to acquire an AVO car with such provenance are truly unrepeatable.”
