These two events will take place on September 13th and 14th, bringing the spirit of the 1980s and 1990s to life while also showcasing Detroit’s innovative automotive future.
RADwood Detroit: A Blast from the Past
Set against the iconic backdrop of Detroit’s Hart Plaza, RADwood returns on Saturday, September 14th, from 11:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., promising an expanded festival experience that blends the best of 1980s and 1990s car culture with live music and entertainment.
RADwood is more than just a car show—it’s an immersive experience. Attendees are encouraged to don their finest ‘80s and ‘90s attire, complete with boomboxes, rollerblades, and BMX bikes, to fully embrace the nostalgia. The event will feature a special performance by DJs from the birthplace of techno music, paying tribute to the era’s unforgettable tunes and American automotive icons.
“RADwood is a celebration of the cars and culture of the ’80s and ’90s as well as the people who created and drove it,” said Art Cervantes, co-founder and CEO of RADwood. “With the energy and momentum Detroit has, it’s hard to beat the Motor City for a radder location.”
A highlight of this year’s RADwood will be a special selection of Mustangs from The Henry Ford Museum, alongside hundreds of other iconic vehicles from the era. Attendees will also have the opportunity to test drive legendary cars from the ‘80s and ‘90s, including a Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R and an Autozam AZ-1.
Cars at the Station: Celebrating Detroit’s Automotive Innovation
Hagerty is also proud to introduce ‘Cars at the Station,’ a brand-new community event that will take place on Friday, September 13th, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Michigan Central Station. This event marks the first public automotive event at the new tech and culture hub, and it promises to be a must-attend gathering for automotive enthusiasts and the broader Detroit community.
“Cars at The Station spotlights the Motor City’s innovative future by leveraging Michigan Central’s excitement as a unique on-ramp that brings the greater community together around car culture,” said Cervantes. “This no-cost event reinforces Hagerty’s commitment to fueling car culture and reaching all Detroiters, welcoming those new to the hobby, as well as those gearheads who never miss a gathering.”
The event will feature three main areas, each offering something unique:
- Michigan Central Station (MCS): The recently restored station will serve as the venue for several automotive debuts, news briefings, and panel discussions. Attendees will also be treated to local musical acts and the announcement of the North American Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle of the Year™ (NACTOY) Awards’ “Best of 2025” vehicles.
- Newlab at Michigan Central: Event-goers will get an exclusive look inside this cutting-edge innovation hub, which is home to over 100 startups focused on pioneering technologies in mobility, energy, and materials. Attendees can participate in immersive activations and discussions aimed at cultivating the next generation of diverse automotive leaders.
- Roosevelt Park – “Cars and Community powered by the Detroit Auto Show”: This community-centric event will bring together the neighborhoods of Corktown and Mexicantown in a celebration featuring more than 100 cars, trucks, and motorcycles. The Detroit Auto Show team will also host local food trucks, music, and entertainment for families to enjoy.
