1961 Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe: A Rare Masterpiece Restored to Original Splendor

This meticulously restored 1961 Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe is a testament to Bentley’s commitment to preserving its heritage. As one of only 15 examples ever built by Mulliner, this rare gem was acquired by Bentley in 2022 from a French owner, marking its inclusion in Bentley’s Heritage Collection. The car, originally delivered in Regal Red with a tan interior, had undergone several modifications over its lifetime, including a conversion to left-hand drive and a repaint in dark blue.

Bentley, in collaboration with restoration experts P&A Wood, undertook an extensive two-year restoration to return UFF366 to its former glory. The process began with stripping the body back to bare metal, allowing for the removal of previous substandard repairs. The engine, gearbox, and rear axle were completely disassembled, with worn parts replaced and the entire drivetrain rebuilt to original specifications. The electrical system was also entirely reconstructed, using original drawings to replicate the exact wiring colors and layout.

The interior restoration involved reupholstering in Connolly Vaumol leather, a precise match to the car’s original light tan, named Fawn. While the decision was made to retain the blue exterior, it was refinished in the authentic 1960s Bentley shade of Ming Blue, complemented by the reapplication of the original gold fine line by hand. Blue and gold trims were also added to the hub caps, completing the car’s exquisite restoration.

This 1961 Bentley S2 Drophead Coupe, now restored to its original splendor, stands as a remarkable piece of automotive history, embodying the elegance and innovation that defined Bentley in the early 1960s.
