Lamborghini has introduced the all-new Temerario, a significant evolution that replaces the Huracan in its lineup. This new supercar is a triple-motor plug-in hybrid (PHEV) boasting a turbocharged V8 engine, offering nearly 45% more power than the outgoing V10 Huracan.
The Huracan, which launched in 2013, followed in the footsteps of the Gallardo, but the automotive world has changed drastically since then. The Temerario is designed to embrace these changes, particularly in terms of emissions reduction and electrification, while still delivering the extreme performance Lamborghini is known for.
To achieve a balance between power and sustainability, Lamborghini replaced the Huracan’s 5.2-liter V10 with a new 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. Unlike Ferrari’s switch to turbocharged V8s, which led to a loss in sound and rev range, Lamborghini was careful to maintain the exhilarating character of its engines. The Temerario’s V8 isn’t just another iteration of the VW Group’s cross-plane V8 found in various models like the Urus SUV. Instead, it features a flat-plane crankshaft and high-revving design, allowing it to hit a remarkable 10,000 rpm, unheard of for a turbocharged engine.
This bespoke V8 cranks out an impressive 789 hp, a significant bump over the Huracan Evo’s 631 hp. Additionally, with 538 lb-ft of torque, it easily surpasses the V10’s 443 lb-ft. Complementing the combustion engine are three electric motors, two of which drive the front wheels, making the car all-wheel-drive and offering torque vectoring. The third motor, positioned between the V8 and a new eight-speed gearbox, functions as both a starter-generator and a source of additional torque.
With all systems combined, the Temerario produces a staggering 907 hp, outshining competitors like the Ferrari 296 GTB and McLaren Artura. However, with this added power comes extra weight. The Temerario tips the scales at 3,726 lbs, making it 592 lbs heavier than the Huracan Evo. Yet, this bulk doesn’t seem to affect its straight-line performance, as the car rockets from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.7 seconds, faster than its predecessor. Top speed also increases, reaching 213 mph.
Visually, the Temerario shares some design cues with Lamborghini’s V12-powered Revuelto, including high-mounted exhausts and an aggressive silhouette. However, the front air intakes and slim LED headlights give it a more refined and modern appearance. While the body is aluminum, unlike the Revuelto’s carbon fiber chassis, the Temerario’s dimensions offer more cabin space, making it a more comfortable fit for taller drivers.
Inside, the cockpit echoes Lamborghini’s fighter-jet-inspired aesthetics with a digital gauge cluster, portrait-oriented touchscreen, and the signature red-covered start button. Various driving modes are available, including the city-friendly “Citta” mode, which allows the car to operate as a front-wheel-drive EV, albeit for a very short range due to its modest 3.8 kWh battery. A recharge mode also exists, allowing the V8 to charge the battery on the go.
Lamborghini offers customization options for performance enthusiasts. The ‘Alleggerita’ package, for example, reduces weight and enhances downforce with carbon fiber components and aerodynamic tweaks. Interior options include carbon fiber door panels, slimmer glass, and polycarbonate windows, potentially shaving off over 55 lbs from the car’s total weight.
Pricing details for the Temerario are yet to be confirmed, but it’s expected to compete closely with the Ferrari 296 GTB, which starts at around $342,000. With its blend of cutting-edge hybrid technology, immense power, and striking design, the Temerario is set to offer a formidable challenge to its rivals.
