Audi A5 Production: A New Era in Sustainability

Audi’s new A5 models are rolling off the production line at the Neckarsulm plant, marking a significant milestone as the first vehicles based on the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) with advanced partially electrified drive systems and a new electronic architecture. This launch signals the beginning of the largest start-up phase in the plant’s history, with Audi aiming for a net carbon-neutral production site by 2025.

The upgraded production line reflects Audi’s commitment to sustainability. By 2025, all models produced at Neckarsulm will adhere to the “360factory” strategy, emphasizing efficiency and innovation. The newly renovated paint shop will be among the most advanced in the automotive industry, featuring energy-saving technologies and a significant reduction in energy consumption—up to 140 kWh per vehicle.

Innovative processes, such as a new paint separation system and improved cathodic dip painting, further enhance energy efficiency and environmental responsibility. Audi’s use of a closed water cycle system will cut fresh water consumption by up to 70% from 2025.

Automation is at the heart of Neckarsulm’s modernization, with the site leading the Group in fully automatic add-on parts installation and advanced quality control. The introduction of new technologies, including augmented reality for inspections, boosts production accuracy and efficiency.

Audi’s dedication to a sustainable future is evident in every aspect of its production at Neckarsulm, aligning with its goal of achieving CO2-neutral manufacturing across all sites globally by 2025.
