The all-new Zenvo Aurora has been developed around the concept of an ‘equilibrium of extremes’. From the outset, the Aurora models have been developed to optimise each element of the design through a carefully balanced blend of each attribute, rather than compromising any one area through an overriding pursuit of top speed, power or styling. A key factor in this process was to ensure the styling was both aggressive and elegant, while ensuring handling and driving engagement were not compromised.
Zenvo is proud to once again partner with renowned Aerotak, with the Danish aerodynamic experts having already given valuable input on the TS1 GT, TSR and TSR-S programmes, producing all the simulations for the ‘centripetal wing’. Founded in 2017, Aerotak continues to grow in the aero-architecture space, they were the natural choice for Zenvo when looking to gain a comprehensive understanding of the airflow for the Aurora Agil and Tur.
Aerotak focus as much on close collaboration as they do on respecting and upholding the spirit of Zenvos design. To do this, the specialist team uses an aero-architecture method, delineating the specific goals behind the simulations, before reviewing the wholistic design of the car and isolating specific areas. From the findings of this initial process, modifications and enhancements can be trialled, maintaining a focus on achieving Zenvo’s optimisation goals, while preserving, and possibly emphasising, the car’s unique design.
With the aero-architecture and goals established, Aerotak carried out simulations to understand the effects of design iterations, allowing updates to be made to optimise and create the most aerodynamic design for both Aurora models.
As part of the detailed simulation programme, Aerotak included the full arrow map and x-ray imaging of the simulations throughout the design development, ensuring fully transparent reporting and optimal performance in all scenarios that Zenvo’s hypercars will find themselves in. This could be high winds, rain, driving over the apex of a hill or taking a closed curve at high speeds, and therefore ensures that the Aurora will perform predictably in every situation.
Commenting on the partnership, Founder & Senior Fluid Mechanics Specialist, Kasper Damkjær remarked: “For us at Aerotak, we have nothing less than the highest praise for our collaboration between ourselves and Zenvo’s design team. Nothing is as motivating as working with a design team that not only listens to our feedback, but also has a desire to understand Aerotak, where we come from, and our process. For them, the work we do provides visual validation of their design, but also works as a key player in delivering the best possible performance for the Aurora project, and its future owners.”
The Zenvo design department had a very clear ambition for the Aurora program. Not wanting to design ‘just another hypercar’, Zenvo wanted to ‘break the mold’ of traditional automotive design, to create a unique car rooted in the Danish design philosophy of form following function.
“It has been a very interesting, but also a very challenging process to design the Aurora models,” commented Christian Brandt, Design Director for Zenvo Automotive. “The Agil, which is the high downforce track biased variant, in particular, presented us with new questions that we had to work through as a team, and working closely with Aerotak really helped streamline and simplify this process. There is a good reason that a Formula 1 car looks the way it does – it’s all about optimal downforce. We quickly realised that beauty and aerodynamics sometimes clash – so we had to go through many iterations to get the perfect balance. I am extremely pleased with the result – the design is clearly part beautiful car styling, and part Formula 1 car-inspired, which is exactly the balance we were seeking.”
Zenvo Automotive focuses on limited-edition hypercars, available to those interested in completely bespoke manufacturing experiences and unique driving abilities. The Aurora will be fully homologated for global markets and will showcase Zenvo’s exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail, all designed in-house.
Hand-built in Præstø, Denmark, Zenvo Automotive pride themselves on their Danish foundations. The all-new Aurora will take inspiration from Danish design principles and be powered by a 6.6-litre flex fuel enabled, quad-turbocharged V12 engine that will produce at least 1,250bhp at 8,000 rpm and rev to 9800 rpm. Development of this bespoke powerplant and a dedicated fleet of test cars continues at a pace.
