Rally legend Travis Pastrana and the Subaru Family Huckster, famous for their appearances in Gymkhana 2022 and the Goodwood Shootout Hillclimbs in 2022 and 2023, are set to return to the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 11-14. This year, they are bringing a special guest: Subaru Motorsports USA driver Scott Speed.
Scott Speed, a four-time rallycross champion and key figure in developing Subaru’s rallycross vehicles, will race alongside Pastrana up the iconic Goodwood hill. Speed’s extensive racing background spans Formula One, NASCAR, and more. At Goodwood, he will debut a new, secretive machine known internally as “Project Midnight.”
Making its first appearance at this year’s festival, Project Midnight is unlike any previous Subaru Motorsports USA vehicle. While its design and purpose differ significantly from the Family Huckster, it shares the same wild spirit. This new beast is expected to captivate the crowd as it charges up the hill, providing a striking contrast and complement to the Family Huckster.
Fans eagerly anticipate the return of Pastrana and the Subaru Family Huckster. Described by last year’s announcer as a “really…strange machine,” the 1983 Subaru GL wagon features carbon fiber panels, active aerodynamics, and an 862-horsepower turbocharged Subaru Boxer engine. It has quickly become a crowd favorite, achieving impressive Shootout times and securing its place among the fastest racing and experimental cars in the world. In 2023, the Family Huckster finished second overall, just behind the $4-million McLaren Solus GT track car, earning Pastrana his second podium finish at Goodwood.
With the addition of Scott Speed and the unveiling of Project Midnight, the 2024 Goodwood Festival of Speed promises to be an exciting event for motorsports enthusiasts.
