Jaguar marked a historic moment as the final Jaguar F-TYPE rolled off the production line at its Castle Bromwich manufacturing facility, exactly 50 years after the last Jaguar E-type left the same plant. This milestone sees the last F-TYPE, a 5.0 litre V8 Convertible in Giola Green, join the esteemed Jaguar Heritage collection, echoing the 5.3 litre V12 final E-type Series III Convertible built in 1974.
The final F-TYPE, with its elegant black roof and Tan Windsor leather interior, mirrors the iconic design of its E-type predecessor registered as HDU 555N. This special vehicle will be entrusted to the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust (JDHT), joining its historic counterpart in the official Jaguar Heritage collection. The car is set to participate in a series of celebratory events and activities throughout the year, honoring Jaguar’s rich legacy in sports car manufacturing.
A Legacy of Innovation and Design
The production of both the F-TYPE and E-type ended on nearly the same date, symbolizing the closing of one chapter and the beginning of another. In 1974, the final E-type signaled the advent of the revolutionary Jaguar XJ-S. Today, the final F-TYPE precedes Jaguar’s bold transformation into a future spearheaded by a groundbreaking four-door electric GT, slated for unveiling in 2025.
Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, stated, “The singular vision of Jaguar’s founder, Sir William Lyons, was to always be future-facing, relevant, and original. This has been the foundation of Jaguar through almost a century of evolving contemporary British luxury. Today, as we celebrate F-TYPE and our 75-year history of innovative Jaguar sports cars, we are also looking forward to the beginning of a new era and elevate the brand to new heights.”
Celebrating F-TYPE’s Journey
First launched as a convertible in 2013, the Jaguar F-TYPE was the brand’s first two-seat sports car in nearly four decades. It garnered universal acclaim and was honored as the 2013 World Car Design of the Year. The following year saw the introduction of the F-TYPE coupé, further solidifying its status as a modern classic.
Over its production span, 87,731 F-TYPEs were crafted, a testament to its enduring appeal. The F-TYPE will continue to be available until early 2025, allowing enthusiasts one last opportunity to own a piece of Jaguar history. For comparison, JDHT records indicate that 72,528 E-types were produced, culminating in a special series of 50 cars, all but one painted black, with the penultimate car finished in British Racing Green for a private collector.
Preserving Jaguar’s Heritage
Both the final F-TYPE and E-type will be housed in the JDHT at Gaydon, alongside the last series XE, XF, and XF Sportbrake, which have also recently concluded production. This esteemed collection ensures that Jaguar’s legacy of innovation, luxury, and performance will be preserved for future generations to admire.
As Jaguar looks ahead to a new era of electric performance and luxury, the final F-TYPE stands as a poignant reminder of the brand’s storied past and its unyielding commitment to pushing the boundaries of automotive design and engineering.
