1970 Chevy C10 Transformed: LS376/525 Engine Upgrade Sets New Performance Standard

Steve and Danielle Locklin’s 1970 Chevy C10 truck has become an icon in the automotive world, known for its continuous evolution and striking presence. Originally purchased as a parts truck at a swap meet 18 years ago in Hamlin, Pennsylvania, the C10 has undergone numerous transformations to reach its current state.

“It’s never finished,” Steve Locklin remarked at the recent Goodguys Summit Racing Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. “To stay relevant, you’ve got to keep updating it every year so it doesn’t get stale.”

Over the years, the truck has seen significant upgrades, including a transition from its original 454 Big-Block engine to a Chevrolet Performance LS376/525 crate engine six years ago. This change was accompanied by an Art Morrison chassis installation, shifting the truck’s focus towards autocross competitions.

“The LS376/525 is a fantastic platform,” Locklin explained. “It delivers reliable power that you can really push hard during autocross events.”

Producing 525 horsepower and 486 lb.-ft. of torque, the LS376/525 features an aggressive ASA camshaft that not only enhances performance but also provides a distinctive exhaust note. Paired with a 4L80-E transmission in a Connect & Cruise Crate Powertrain System, the engine installation was seamless, complemented by a Camaro engine cover for a finishing touch.

The exterior of the truck boasts over 100 body modifications, including elements from a 1967 C10 nose, and was meticulously crafted by Mike Goldman Customs in Meridian, Mississippi. Highlights include JRi coilovers, Wilwood brakes, Michelin Super Sport tires, and Forgeline wheels. A Bedwood truck bed and flush-mount LED tail lights further enhance its aesthetic appeal.

Inside, the truck features a custom red interior by Paul Atkins Interiors, blending modern comfort with classic style. The attention to detail extends to every corner, including a dashboard designed to mirror the roll pan, showcasing the craftsmanship and dedication invested in this project.

Beyond their automotive endeavors, the Locklins own multiple businesses in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and have an avid interest in the automotive hobby. They attend various Goodguys events annually, where their vehicles have garnered recognition, including Danielle’s 1934 Ford, named Goodguys Truck of the Year in 2018.

Looking ahead, the Locklins plan to continue refining their C10 while also pursuing new automotive projects, setting benchmarks for enthusiasts and builders alike. As Steve Locklin sums it up, “It’s about pushing boundaries and ensuring the C10 remains a symbol of innovation and craftsmanship in the automotive world.”
