Kindig-it’s 1948 GMC Truck by Kindig-it is a reimagined classic that embodies craftsmanship and modern performance. Completed in 2019 after a 15-year journey, this build stands as one of the most distinctive trucks to leave the Kindig-it Design shop.
The Story Behind the Build
This GMC truck has had a long and evolving history with Kindig-it. The project began in 2004 and changed hands three times, each owner shaping a new direction. It finally reached completion in 2019 with a bold new vision that transformed it into one of the most striking custom trucks ever created by the team.
Engine and Transmission
At its heart lies a GM Performance LS3 engine, delivering 480 wheel horsepower. The engine is paired with a 4L60E transmission for smooth, reliable performance. A custom-built air cleaner adds a touch of vintage styling while improving airflow and efficiency.
Chassis and Suspension
The truck rides on an Art Morrison chassis equipped with a Custom IFS and a 4-link rear end, ensuring a refined balance between comfort and handling. The setup enhances both driving dynamics and ride stability, perfectly matching the truck’s powerful performance.
Body Modifications
Kindig-it’s design approach reshaped the classic GMC with extensive modifications. The cab was stretched by four inches, the doors converted to suicide-style openings, and custom Kindig-it smooth handles were integrated into bespoke trim. The sculpted bed, organically formed and flowing, gives the truck a unique and futuristic presence.
Paint Finish
The exterior wears a color called “Sageless,” from Kindig-it’s own “Modern Classikk by Kindig” paint line powered by AkzoNobel. The hue blends sage tones with timeless sophistication, fitting perfectly with the truck’s vintage-meets-modern identity.
Interior Craftsmanship
Inside, JS Custom Interiors created a luxurious cabin finished in Hyde’s Leather “Smoke” with BMW Havana Velour carpeting. The setup includes a custom Dakota Digital gauge cluster, a one-off EVOD steering wheel, and an Ididit steering column , merging classic elegance with modern comfort.
Wheels and Tires
Rolling on one-off wheels designed by Dave Kindig and built by Billet Specialties, the truck features Pirelli tires sized 20×8 at the front and massive 24×15 at the rear. This setup not only enhances stance and grip but also reinforces the bold, aggressive look of the build.
Performance and Power
With 480 wheel horsepower and a finely tuned chassis, the 1948 GMC by Kindig-it delivers the kind of driving experience few customs can match. Every component was designed to enhance performance while keeping true to the spirit of the original truck.
Summary
Kindig-it’s 1948 GMC Truck represents years of dedication and design evolution. From its sculpted body and luxurious interior to its LS3 heart and flawless “Sageless” finish, it stands as a modern tribute to classic American craftsmanship , bold, elegant, and unmistakably Kindig-it.
